Wyoming Township Schools

Thanks to Lisa Cristensen for this map.

This 1894 Polk Map shows the school districts in color.

School districts were numbered in the order they were created.

This is a rough geographical outline:

 Grand River           7      GR

1                   4                 GR

1                   2                    6 fractional?

10                 3                    6

6            3              5           8

No  9 not listed, perhaps Burton?

Starting in the upper right hand corner

Blue - School District #7 shows a school at the corner of Chicago Drive and Godfrey. (best guess). Part of this district was probably annexed by the City of GR in 1891 that contained Hall School. Probably today's Godfrey-Lee.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pink - School District #1shows two possible school buildings, one serving the town of Grandville,
the other serving the rural area.

Blue - School District #4 shows the school on the J Porter farm, in the SW 1/4 of Section 10
at the corner of Byron Center and Porter.

Yellow - No school district identified but would most likely be Burton, annexed to the City of Grand Rapids in 1891.
              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
