When the City of Grand Rapids came into existence in 1850, it absorbed two Grand
Rapids Township schools, Central and Coldbrook, as well as one Walker Township
School, Union. Although the red line indicates both the boundary line between
District 1 and 6, and the township line, the Grand River was the practical
boundary.
