Coit Neighborhood

My Childhood Stomping Grounds include my Coit School Neighborhood, the Michigan Street Business District and Downtown.    Urban Renewal,  Butterworth Hospital and Heritage Hill would adversely destroy almost all.

The Coit and Curtis partition Plat for Sections 19 and 30 was recorded on April 14, 1870 at 3 p.m.  Unfortunately, the State web site copied Part 1, Section 19 north of Bridge St,  twice.  Statewide Search for Subdivision Plats - Image

The Map shows:

1. My neighborhood is in  the SW 1/4 of Section 19 which was subdivided by Corbitt.   The large orange square was my home at 613 Lafayette Ave NE.  The small orange square is Coit School. My neighborhood

2. The orange line is the business district along Michigan Street.   See Michigan Street which is Bridge St on the Plat.

3.  The short blue line is Hastings Street.  See Hastings which must be on the vicinity of Lot 54.

4.  The blue blob by the railroad tracks is Highland Park now a storm drainage basin.  The big blue circle farther north was Creston Park, a storm drainage basin. The blue rectangle is Look Out Park.  The blue C is the coal yard.  Those were my favorite places to play.

5. The big aqua square is Butterworth Hospital where I was born. The small aqua square was Old Butterworth Hospital, then housing for nurses. 5.  The small blue dot is my second home at 217 Crescent St NE in the NW 1/4 of Section 30 in Kendall's Addition. Crescent

6. The large blue dot is Central High School. See City Schools

7.  The large aqua dot is Butterworth Hospital where I was born.  The small aqua dot was the original hospital location. Michigan Street

8.  The aqua O was City Hall now a court house, L is still the Ryerson Library and M was the location of the museum. Downtown

9.  The large Red/Orange square between the L and M was the Metz Building. Downtown

10.  Heritage Hill starts just to the East and South of 217 Crescent St.  See Heritage Hill
