1952 - new building on Griggs east of Sylvan by Aalsburg Builders  GRP 30 Oct 1952

From a brochure at GRPL Vertical File:  result of extensive planning by the administration, teachers, citizens and architects.  It contains facilities for 350 pupils. It is designed for a future addition to serve 150 more pupils. The building houses 11 classrooms including the kindergarten and the special services room for children with handicaps. In addition, there is a combination gymnasium-auditorium, library, health room, audio-visual room, school park arts and crafts room, music room, teachers' room, and a community school kitchen. All rooms are planned for multiple use by pupils, parents and other community groups.

Asphalt tile floor on concrete slab, radiant heating in the primary rooms, forced-air in other places,  interior walls are cinder block and interior brick. Green chalk boards are use to minimize eye strain. The low, contemporary design is fashioned to attract children and to house them in a warm, friendly hone-like atmosphere.

The building is essentially a one-story structure built on the southeast slopes of Mulick Park. Because of the topography, the school-park arts and crafts room and toilet facilities are at grade level below the later elementary classrooms. -- It provides for a full twelve-month use of parks and schools-- which leads to savings for the taxpayer by eliminating duplication of two parcels of land - one for schools and one for parks.
