I was thrilled when Kent County was going to go on-line. I thought I would be able to access the maps from home. I had used Beaufort County, North Carolina's assessor's site where anyone could wonder all over the whole county. I thought Kent County would too - NOT. Kent County went with REGIS. You have to be a paid subscriber to access the whole map. You can go down in person, but you won't be welcomed, to the City of Grand Rapids Assessor's office or Kent County Mapping and Description and physically look at the maps. They'll tell you to go to the library and access their records on-line. But the old maps are gone and have been replaced by REGIS maps which I personally find very hard to read. 1. The colors they use are too faint and similar to distinguish boundaries clearly. 2. The numbers are little ittty bitty tinny tiny but the Books are huge and heavy. You can look up a specific parcel at the Kent County web site if you know the parcel number. And you can look up the parcel number if you know the tax address. NOTE: The tax address does not necessarily match the mailing address. The parcel will be outlined in blue and if the parcel is near a section line, that line will be marked in red.
Warning: Personal opinion follows: Beware: And that reminds me of when I first worked in the City Assessor's office in Personal Property. (stoves and refrigerators but also machinery and equipment). The record was kept in code. A red circle meant something, a green triangle something else. State Law said that an owner had the right to examine their record. So the taxpayer could look at circles and triangles to his heart's content. And that reminds me of the time I had to vote for the President of the United States in a Polish Hall where Polish was the only language spoken. Luckily, the ballots were in English. That's why I think making English the official language is important so the government conducts its business openly and simply without needless repitition or in secret code. It does not mean that you can't speak another language. You aren't official. From Article Land Intro.
