Kent County Street Name Changes Bob Barber, who was a City Real Property Appraiser made a list of street name changes that included area beyond the limits of the City of Grand Rapids. There was another booklet that I saw once that had a spiral binding. It used to be at Kent County Mapping and Description but the old-timers have retired and no one can find it. I called Kent District Library and they insist the the GRPL has it. The GRPL doesn't have any information on street name changes other than what Bob Barber and I gave them. They don't seem to care. I remember it had Elbourne changed to Plymouth. I went to the Road Commission and they had this booklet which did not have a spiral binding and does not show Elbourne. From this booklet of road names changed by the Kent County Road Commission up to May 1, 1945 in order to eliminate all duplications -- in Kent County. The location coordinates such as 15SE3 means it is 1500 numbers south of Fulton Street and 300 numbers east of Division. The city of Grand Rapids annexed streets from Grand Rapids Twp, Paris Twp, Walker Twp and Wyoming Twp. The City of Kentwood annexed land from Paris Twp. The Cities of Grandville and Wyoming annexed land from Wyoming Twp. The City of Walker annexed land from Walker and Wyoming townships. Abbreviated KCRC. |
