Jefferson Avenue School NW 1/4 Sec 6 Paris Twp between Houseman's Fairgrounds 1892 and Mercer and Durkee 1892. Warranty Deed 1892 - Built. 1893 - Located on the east side of Jefferson avenue at the head of Fair street. Lot fronting 166 feet on Jefferson avenue and Cass streets and 262; deep. The building is of brick, two stories and basement, slate roof. Well ventilated and heated by tubular boiler. city water and sewer connections. Contains eight rooms and sittings for 400 pupils. Cost $16,000. 1894 - Eleventh Ward. Heated by steam. 1898 - A four-room addition has been made. 1905 - Plumbing condemned 1907 Section 6 Ogle Paris 1912 - The heating system was remodeled during the summer. 1921 Annual Report - Old 11th Ward - Part of NW 1/4 Sec 6 T6N R11W (Paris Twp) beginning a the SE corner of lot 169 of Houseman's Fair Ground Addition. Also lots 1-10 of Mercer & Durkee's Addition. 1922 - Contract was let for addition which will be ready for use the second semester of the school year 1922-23. 1923 - new addition opens 1953 Sanborn Fire Map has the school on two pages. Pg 382 shows the school from Cass Avenue and includes the original school and a fireproof concrete addition dated 1923. Page 380 shows the original school as having been built 1892-1898 at lot address of 1356 Jefferson Ave SE. 1968 - GRPL Vertical File: 8-room building for the early Elementary program was completed in Junuary. 1974 - old portion of the building demolished per GRP, one wing left standing. From the GRPL Vertical File: 1975 - plans for new school per GRP, bids received; Warm Friend Plumbing, Swartz Electric Co, Kent Concrete Co, etc.
