My condensed version: Effective from 1778-1789 (The American Revolution 1776-1782) These articles were done for the Continental Congress for running the new-country-to-be including the Continental Army during the American Revolution. Entered between the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, and Virginia. I. Name = United States of America II. Each state retains whatever authority is not expressly given to Congress. III. States will cooperate in friendship with each other for common defense, securing liberties, general welfare, IV. Inhabitants can travel freely between states - information on extradition of criminals V. Selecting representatives to Congress and State Assemblies. VI. Restrictions on states for sending or receiving representatives between themselves or with foreign countries. Requirements and restrictions on states for maintaining militias. . VII. States can appoint officers up to the rank of Colonel. VIII. Rules for payment for the cost of soldiers. IX. Congressional authority for declaring war, sending and receiving ambassadors, entering into treaties, information on piracy, tax duties, for settling disputes between states, for coining money, regulating weights and measures and trade, Indian Affairs (depending on situations within states), post office delivery between states, directing the army and navy, appointing committees, appointing a President-like person, levy taxes, nine states have to agree before Congress can take any action, Congress decides when Congress can adjourn. X. Nine states together can act in place of recessed Congress. XI. Canada can join. XII. Payment of bills XIII. Requirement for states to behave. Signatures and promises.
