Catholic Church vs. Child molesting priests The mistake the Catholic Church made is that they assumed child molesting priests were true priests who, unable to live with the rule of celibacy, strayed from the straight and narrow and fell hard but that they would have a true desire to repent and with counseling would be able to return to God. What the Catholic Church did not understand is that child molesters deliberately chose the priesthood as a means to access vulnerable victims. They weren't priests who had fallen but child molesters hiding behind the cloth with no intention of ever repenting. Child molesters are masters at pretence. They are liars. They are predators. They do not want to repent. A child-molesting priest is not a true priest but a child-molester posing as a priest. Child molesters deliberately choose positions of authority over children, Scout Leaders, School Teachers, Coaches, Priests, friendly and helpful neighbors. Child molesters deliberately cover their desires with a false front of honest trustworthiness. That's what amuses me about the fear of strangers. Most abusers are people you know and like and trust. Abusers convince the victim that the victim is responsible. Molesters convince the victim that they "love" them. Children are vulnerable. Who's taking care of your child while you're busy getting everything you deserve? You deserve everything. You deserve an abused child. But your abused child doesn't deserve you. Child molesters do not respond to counseling. They truly believe they aren't doing anything wrong. They are just misunderstood. They "love" children. Anyone's children. Everyone's children.
