This site was purchased in 1951 with conditions: 1. No sand or gravel shall be removed - for 30 years. 2. - an easement granted on 13 April 1929 to Consumers Power --. released 3. -- a right-of-way granted to the County of Kent on 27 December 1930 -- at the entrance to the bridge--.

(Northeast of the Jenesen Addition platted in 1893 for Jacob and
Elizabeth Jenesen). 4-6-1953 Report That portion of the Alger Madison site, lying west of the west line of Jefferson Avenue extended. The side plans for this building require the use of only that portion of the property lying east of the west line of Jefferson Avenue extended. It is recommended that the business Manage be directed to ascertain whether or not the City of Grand Rapids hs any use for this property and if not to advertise it for sale, possession to be given on completion of the new building. From the GRPL Vertical File: Houses 14 classrooms, one kindergarten, special services room, gymnasium-auditorium, library, combination arts, crafts and audio-visual room, music room, health room, teachers' room, community kitchen, office and lobby. floor are of asphalt tile on concrete slab, radiant and forced air heating, interior walls are icnder block, tile and brick. Chalkboards are green. Interior wood work is of natural-finish birch and oak. Brookside is part of the school-park plan which results in a saving of tax money to the citizens of Grand Rapids by making the one recreation area available to both school and park departments, rather than providing both a park and a school playground.
