Eastern Ave, Cherry St, Sheldon, Commerce Isabella Home 200 Eastern Ave SE The Pasadena 120 Eastern SE 330 Eastern Ave SE This was the Eggebeen Funeral Home when I was young. I went to Central High School with their daughter. She invited me on a tour of the mortuary. Silly me, I declined. I was afraid I'd run into a ghost. The real estate card dated 1987 states: Victorian Mansion , 14 rooms, approx. 5,000 square feet, three baths, four fireplaces, built about 1880, gravity gas heat, full basement, brick exterior, 40-car parking lot. City Assessor:
220 Eastern Ave SE This was right next door to the Isabella Home so I saw it almost every day. The real estate card date 1972 states: stucco, full basement,
City Assessor: The 1951 assessor card states: 12 apts on top but 14 units at $600 at the bottom, heavy wood frame construction, 3 stories at 2823 sq ft per floor, stucco and brick exterior, plain ext. trim. tar and gravel roof, full concrete basement with cement floor, pine interior trim, hardwood floors, hot water with gas burner, 12 baths, 12 rooms on each floor, 12 3-rm apts, built 1920. (assume the dining area is not a separate room). The house in the rear has been torn down. Now owned by Project Rehab.
822 Eastern Ave SE City Assessor The Big Red 4 apartments, average brick construction, brick and imitation
brick siding, plain exterior trim, compos shingles, partial basement with
concrete floor, pine trim, hardwood floors, plaster walls and ceiling, hot air,
converted, blower, 4 baths, When I inspected the house next door I really wanted to inspect this house too but never got the chance. Real Estate Card: 4 units, living room, kitchen with eating
area, bedroom and bath in each unit. 4 garages.
828 Eastern Ave SE Real Estate Card dated 1967 states: Living Room, Dining Room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms, bath, full basement. I inspected this house many times and really liked it. It was so cute. A side door on the south opens into a back hall that included stairs to the basement and an entrance to the kitchen which was one step up. Through the kitchen you entered the central hallway - left to the living room , right to the bedrooms. There was a stairway up to an unfinished attic. I can't remember anymore but perhaps the stairs had to be pulled down with a rope. The rear door is off a bedroom and can be seen in the photo of 822 Eastern.
139 Sheldon The red building with a turret was a trolley car station. When I was a little girl, the inside was still as original but no longer used and rather messy. My father went in but wouldn't let me. Now it's part of a newer yellow building at 139 Sheldon Ave SE. The big building on the left was a Moose Hall. Now it's a homeless kitchen.
801 Cherry St SE The real estate cards date from 1957: One stucco building and
two 2-family. Value is in the land. Buldings of little value.
When I worked at the Cop Shop we stopped at the Crispus Attucks
branch of the American Legion. Later it burned down. Thanks to Kim Rush for these photos. From Heading Architecture From Website MyGrandRapids.info
