Commencing on the W. line of Pine Street at a point 450 feet North of the N. line of W. Bridge Street,
thence West parallel with the N. line of said W. Bridge Street 200 feet
thence North parallel with the Pine St. 187 feet to land owned by Theodore Martin,
thence East parallel with said N. line of W. Bride Street to 200 feet to said Pine Street,
thence South on said W. line of Pine Street 187 feet to beginning.
 

This land was purchased before being platted.

1878 - Vedder's school lot, 200' on First x 187' on Pine, 7th ward.

1879 -  New school built of brick 32x74 ft, two stories with high stone basement, heated by stoves, erected last year for $6,075, only two rooms occupied.  Recommend  that this lot be graded, which can be done by removing dirt from high part of the lot to the lower. For a photo see Master Plan

1882 - four rooms occupied

This photo is looking towards the Southeast facing the back addition. Pine Street lies behind the school while First Street is to the right.  St. James Catholic Church faces Bridge Street.

1883 - renamed Pine Street School

The 1885 Collar and Greiner map shows his school on an unplatted lot west of Pine and North of a short dog leg of Pine.  There are two Vedder plats, that adjoin, one on the south Barker and Vedder, the other  east  H A Vedder's

1887 - value $10,000

1891 - Seventh Ward  Warmed by stoves. 2-room annex

1895 - An addition 12x24 feet in size, together with the heating, water closets and sewerage (sic) was added to this building during the last vacation.

1895 Sanborn Fire Map: The original school is on the right sides.

1898 - Four-room addition. Eight rooms with sittings for 400 pupils.  The building has been provided with steam heat in place of the furnaces and made a first-class school.

1905 - Plumbing condemned

1912 - New plumbing has been installed (GR Herald, 20 August 1912, pg)

1913 Sanborn Fire map has been altered at an unknown date by the Assessor who has hand drawn in houses where the school once stood.  At 507, 509, 511, 515 Pine and 1047 First. It also shows Wallin Church.

 

1914 - A fire escape to be installed. 

1921 - A new site is recommended

1921 Annual Report - Old 7th Ward - Part of section 23 T7N, R12W (Walker) (from the) NW corner of North Pine and First Street etc

1929 - Closed

1930 - Fire

1938 plat created by Assessor Panfil.platted in  Panfil's 21 in 1938. Now I-196.
