thence Easterly parallel with Wealthy Avenue 135 feet,
thence Westerly parallel with Henry Street 150 feet to the place of beginning
 

NE 1/4 NE 1/4 Sec 31 T7N R11W approximately lots 2, 3 and a little bit of 4 of Block 2 of Remington's Addition. Remington. Platted in 1866 by Coffinberry for William Remington.  Street Name Changes: East to Eastern in 1912, Winsor to Fifth in 1877 and then to Franklin in 1912. Charles was added between East and Henry while James was added between Henry and Union. These were created unofficially and recorded as such in  Doran's Assessors Plat #4

 

1879 - Third ward, Henry and James between Wealthy and Sherman.  Lot 150 feet on Henry and James by 270 feet deep.  Brick, 32x74, two stories above a good stone basement, heated by stoves, four good school-rooms, sittings for 200 pupils, lot graded for $7,465. To see a photo: Master Plan

1880 - three rooms now occupied.

1882 - fourth room has been reseated.  Henry street has been graded leaving the lot several feet above the street.

1883 - Henry Street School

The 1885 Collar and Greiner map shows this school on lot 2 between Wealthy, James, Logan and Henry.

1887 - value $10,000

1889 - During the year the building has been enlarged and a system of hot air heating and ventilation provided at a cost of $8,500.  It now has eight rooms and sittings for 400 pupils.

1893 - Heated by Ruttan Warming and Ventilating system with Smead dry closets in the basement. Eight rooms and sittings for 400 pupils.

1899 - The closets are located in the basement and are connected with the sewer and city water.

1907 Section 31  Ogle GRT

1907 - This was the last of the eight room buildings to be heated by furnace.  The expense of this heating was nearly twice that of corresponding steam plants.  Plans and specifications were prepared for the installation of a steam plant and the work was carried out during the summer and completed before the opening of school.  The cost of this work was approximately $3,000 and it's economy and usefulness have already been demonstrated. 

1913 Sanborn Fire Map has alterations on it made by the assessor at an unknown date showing a new building.

1917 - plans for a new building. Three places adjoining Henry purchased.  I will be necessary to purchase one more place.

Cost: $7.4 million
Highlights: $4.9 million new school to be built just south of the existing school, which would be razed to make way for a $125,000 playground; and $245,000 for computers and video equipment. The school would expand to include grades seven and eight.
