E39 1/2 FT OF LOT 2 BLK 6* COIT & CO S ADDITION

It was built in the 1860's (at least the foundation) and had a coal furnace. It had four rooms down and three up.  The Stewarts lived here where I was a kid..  In 1936 it was Wellington W Scott and his wife Sarah J and Faith E Scott.

The house on the left was gone when I was a child and it was just an empty dirt/gravel lot.  There was a full-size door that entered into the high stone basement with a dirt floor on the left or East side. It was the only house left on that side of the street. The front door opened into a full living room that had a big piano at the far end, I think it was some type of a grand piano. The Stewarts lived here when I was a kid. Mrs. Stewart was an alcoholic. I never saw her sober, not even in the morning.  My mother told me that her older daughter had slipped downstairs one cold winter morning and tried to light the stove catching nightgown on fire and Mrs. Stewart saw her burst into flames but couldn't reach her in time and she burned to death. Two people died that day, only one physically. The younger daughter Georgianna was my age. She had two older brothers. They went to Coit School.

The Residents:

1900 Census Page 62 - Charles L Corwin  (200 Daniel Gill)

1912 City Directory - W W Scott  (The house to the East was 248 (200) Mrs. E. Higgens)
